The earliest record of football was in ancient China more than 2000 years ago, where there are mentions of a game resembling football in military manuals. The Han Dynasty played a game called Tsu’ Chu, which involved kicking a ball through a 35-40 cm opening and into what we now see as a goal made of poles with a net attached to it.

Establishment of the Football Association

( When football association was established? )

In 1863, the first football association was formed in England. Different rules were established i-e carrying the ball with a hand was not allowed. These rules were changed time to time until FIFA was founded. In 1904, the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) was founded to oversee international competition and promote the sport worldwide. Now, FIFA is also known as the governing body for football worldwide.

Idea of Football

( Who gave the idea of football? )

The idea of football spread to Europe from England. Two school teachers from England, August Hermann and Konrad Koch introduced the game to Germany 1874.

First International Match

( When first football match was played? )

In 1872, in the late 19th century, the first international match took place. It was played between England and Scotland. The first-ever international football match took place in a field at the West of Scotland Cricket Club in Partick, Glasgow, on Saint Andrew’s Day because there was no stadium. The match ended up as a draw (0-0). It was not a FIFA-sanctioned international match because FIFA was founded in 1904. The reason why it is considered a first international football match is that it was played between two different national teams.
